DA budgets P700 million for fish landings
Excerpt
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has allocated over P700 million to establish new community fish landing centers (CFLCs) nationwide in order to improve the socioeconomic conditions of fishing communities. In a statement yesterday, the DA said its Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will put up a total of 252 CFLCs, each costing P2.85 million. “Based on NAPC’s (National Anti-Poverty Commission) recommendation, the areas were assessed based on poverty incidence, municipal density, fish production, number of registered fisherfolk and number of existing fish ports and fish landing areas,” Mr. Perez said.
