    Excerpt
An Aklanon government scientist insisted that pollution is the main cause of the algal bloom in this island resort. Raymund Jacinto Sucgang, a researcher for the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, also lamented what he claimed to be the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) lack of effort to ensure environmental sustainability here. Sucgang, who hails from Batan, Aklan, organized in 2012 a team to study the impact of the algal bloom in Boracay to corals.
