Almost all fishponds have dried up in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental due to the prolonged effects of the ongoing El Niño. Jason Vergara, caretaker of two-hectare fishpond in Barangay Bio-os, expressed concern after his weekly harvest of fish dropped to 3 kilos from its usual 300 kilos. Vergara also noticed that his fish have become smaller. He said its price also fell from P90 per kilo to P80 per kilo.
