The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-6) announced that waters of Gigantes Islands in Carles, Iloilo tested positive for red tide. BFAR Director Eduardo Gongona, Agriculture Undersecretary for Fisheries, confirmed that shellfish samples collected from coastal waters of Gigantes Islands were found to have Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) toxin level beyond the regulatory limit. To avoid PSP, BFAR warned the public not to eat, gather, transport, harvest, and market shellfish from coastal waters of Gigantes Islands “until such time that the shellfish toxicity level has gone below the regulatory limit of 60 ugSTXeq/100g of shellfish.”en
