Illegal fishing remains a concern in Iloilo province although the Bantay Dagat is doing all it can to catch poachers. Some quarters may find this concern picayune compared to illegal drugs. Increasing national productivity is an urgent matter if we are to industrialize by the turn of the century. But development should not be at the expense of rapidly depleting our marine resources. We must ensure sufficient food supply to million of Filipinos through the protection of the vast potential of our fisheries.
