    The Department of Environment and Natrual Resources (DENR) targets to develop and rehabilitate almost 3,000 hectares (ha.) of mangrove plantations and beach forests in Western Visayas. Through the Mangrove and Forest Development Project (MFDP), the government aims to develop and enrich 50,000 ha. of such plantation nationwide. Under the project, Western Visayas was allocated 2,747 ha. for development or rehabilitation: Aklan, 219 ha.; Antique, 200 ha.; Capiz, 388 ha.; Guimaras, 300 ha.; Iloilo 910 ha.; and Negros Occidental, 730 ha.
