Vendors at La Paz market in Iloilo City said they prepared ahead of the fish holiday to keep up with demand. The reason for the fish holiday is the passage of Republic Act 10654 which amended Section 14 of the existing Fishery Code on “monitoring, control and surveillance of fishing in Philippine waters,” authored by Sen. Cynthia Villar. The amendment aims to strengthen government campaign against unregulated fishing, poaching, and other illegal fishing acts.en
