Local fish traders and fishermen are being urged to join three days of nationwide "fish holiday" beginning today. The "fish holiday" is a protest against Republic Act (RA) 10654 that, among others, imposes stiff penalties to unauthorized fishing practices. RA 10654 amended RA 8550 (Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998) and aims to "prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing."
