    Excerpt
The Philippines looks forward to strategic alignment with key stakeholders, expressing hope that the Conference of the Parties (COP) can begin laying the foundations for scientifically robust, inclusive, and effective protection of biodiversity in the high seas. Speaking during the High-Level Event on “BBNJ First Movers” held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) at the UN Headquarters in New York, Environment Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna emphasized that ocean protection beyond national borders is a pressing priority for archipelagic states like the Philippines.
