    Excerpt
The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to release P6.2 billion from a government program to help farmers and fisherfolk amid expectations that El Niño will ravage plantations in 2027. Agriculture Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa said the DA has already requested P6.2 billion from the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) program to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). This would provide farmers and fisherfolk with fertilizer and fuel assistance in preparation for the impact of the dry spell on the farm sector. The current El Niño is expected to peak in the fourth quarter.
