The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas’ (PRO-6) continuous campaign against environmental crimes has resulted in the arrest of 33 wanted individuals and confiscation of P3.8 million worth of illegally caught fish and fishing tools in 24 hours. In a statement Sunday, Western Visayas police chief BGen. Randulf Tuaño said police conducted 21 operations in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo from 6 a.m. on Aug. 15 to 5:59 a.m. on Aug. 16. Iloilo accounted for the largest share of the confiscated items at about P2.60 million, followed by Antique at P243,850 and Aklan at P234,230. Tuaño said the campaign is aimed at protecting marine resources while ensuring that legitimate fishermen can continue to earn a living through lawful fishing activities.
