Environment secretary Gina Lopez has stressed the importance of preserving the environment while growing the economy as governments around the world seek the cap global warming. Speaking at a climate change summit in Morocco earlier this week, Lopez said the environment department would plant more bamboos and mangroves to make communities more resilient to the impact of climate change. Areas with thick mangrove forests suffer 80 percent less damage during storms, Lopez said, citing 2013's super typhoon "Yolanda."
