An algal bloom that suddenly appeared along the coastlines of three barangays in Miag-ao town has left 86 residents suffering from respiratory and irritation-related symptoms, prompting local authorities to issue a health advisory, mobilize emergency responders, and launch an intensive coastal cleanup operation. The algal bloom was observed Tuesday, June 23, in the coastal barangays of Sapa, Mambatad, and Narat-an, where dozens of residents experienced symptoms ranging from mild to severe, including irritation of the nose and throat, sneezing, runny nose, coughing, chest tightness, and breathing discomfort.
