    The Mand­aue City Gov­ern­ment is mobil­iz­ing a 4-kilo­meter desilt­ing oper­a­tion along the Butu­anon River to pro­tect low-lying com­munit­ies from chronic flood­ing. This project relies on a P100-mil­lion local flood con­trol budget and a part­ner­ship with San Miguel Cor­por­a­tion (SMC) that runs until April 2027. Mand­aue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano said the river-clear­ing project aims to double or triple the water­way’s flow capa­city. The project addresses bot­tle­neck zones that leave river­side res­id­ents vul­ner­able to sud­den floods. The dredging and desilt­ing oper­a­tions span a 4-kilo­meter stretch from the mouth of the Butu­anon River to an area past Pacific Mall.
