    Excerpt
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has dismissed former Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio’s warnings on the High Seas Treaty, calling them a “fundamental misreading” of the agreement. Taking “strong exception” to Carpio’s charge that the government is “sleeping on the job” and committing treason, the DFA rejected his claim that the Philippines risks losing its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) if it fails to protest China’s maritime declarations.
