The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said there is an urgent need to revitalize the domestic production of salt. BFAR raised this point as the Philippine’s self-sufficiency must not rely on imported salt, and the same time, stronger safeguards for Filipino salt producers must be put in place. According to BFAR National Director Elizer Salilig, these safeguards must be readily put in place owing to an influx of foreign imports threatening the local livelihood.
