'Expect spike in seafood prices during Holy Week'
Excerpt
Prices of fish may further increase during the Holy Week, not only because of high demand, but also because of the oil price shock that “drastically increased” the production cost in the fish trade, according to a national federation of fishermen’s organizations, on Tuesday. “The government’s failure to address the oil crisis will also affect consumers, especially Filipino Catholics who abstain from meat during Holy Week. There were reports that retail prices of fish have already increased by 20 percent over the weekend,” Fernando Hicap, national chairperson of the Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas, said.
