At least 15 people were killed and more than 20 remain missing after a ferry carrying 359 passengers sank off Basilan while en route to Jolo, Sulu, early Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. More than 200 passengers were rescued. The m/v Trisha Kirstin 3, operated by Aleson Shipping Lines, sank at around 1 a.m. near Baluk-Baluk Island, Hadji Muhtamad, in Basilan while en route from Zamboanga City to Jolo, Sulu.
