The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC-6) passed in July 2016 a resolution requesting the weather bureau to install coastal radars in Iloilo, Guimaras, and Bacolod to address issues of stranded passengers due to heavy rains. "We hope that this year or next year we will already have coastal radars to be installed in Iloilo, Bacolod, and Guimaras Island." Tabada said. He stressed that coastal radars are needed in these areas due to the large volume of passengers who get stranded whenever trips are suspended or cancelled due to inclement weather. A coastal radar is similar to closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) which can monitor the status of the sea and height of waves which are some of the bases for the issuance of gale warning or public storm signal.
