    Excerpt
The municipal government of Pola town in Oriental Mindoro — one of the towns that was devastated by the recent oil spill in their waters — announced on Tuesday that the situation in the area is already manageable and improving. However, Pola Mayor Jennifer Cruz stressed that fisherfolk in the town still need monetary and livelihood assistance to sustain the needs of their families as the effects of the oil spill are still lingering. “Right now, the condition is quite okay because the tarballs (a blob of petroleum which has been weathered after floating in the ocean) reaching the shore are now lessening,” Cruz said.
