The National Disaster Risk Reduction Council announced the arrival of the Pacific Valkyrie, an anchor-handling vessel of the United States, last Tuesday morning to augment the oil spill management operations in Oriental Mindoro. NDRRMC said the vessel is carrying a submersible remotely operated vehicle and will conduct a video and sonar survey of the sunken MT Princess Empress. National Defense Chief and NDRRMC chairperson Carlito Galvez Jr. said the ROV can take still photographs and carry a payload of up to 150 lbs. with a function manipulator capable of working at depth and auxiliary servos for hydraulic tool operations. It has a salvage basket that can bear 4,000 lbs.en
