    DENR suspends Davao Oriental mining firms over river siltation

    The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ordered mining companies to suspend their operations following heavy siltation and water discoloration at the Mapagba and Pinatatagan rivers in Banaybanay. “I received the report yesterday (Jan. 17) confirming that the river has turned red due to extraction activities. I have instructed our regional office to immediately address the incident and to suspend the operations of the mining company(ies),” Secretary Roy A. Cimatu said in a statement.
