    Excerpt
The oil spill from the sunken MT Princess Empress now covers an area six kilometers long and four kilometers wide and has reached the shorelines of Naujan, Pola, and Pinamalayan towns, including a marine protected area, in Oriental Mindoro, according to the latest monitoring by the Philippine Coast Guard Thursday. The PCG said that its response strategies for the recovery of some 80,000 liters of oil include manual and mechanical scooping and the deployment of absorbent pads. For the containment, the PCG said it has initiated the manual deployment of absorbent booms.
