The Department of Agriculture (DA) has extended the issuances of fish and seafood import permits to the end of this month as shipments remain well below the approved level. The move, it also said, will allow traders to adjust to new guidelines aimed at "easing food inflation and improving allocation efficiency." Earlier this year, the agency approved shipments of up to 25,000 metric tons of fish and seafood, but only about a quarter of the quantity has arrived.Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. attributed this to "overly tight importation timelines and sourcing constraints."en
