    Excerpt
Various stakeholders implemented a Giant Clam Restocking Project in Anilao to save the endangered species from extinction. The March 15 activity included representatives from the local government of Mabini, Batangas, scientists from the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI) Bolinao Marine Laboratory, local “bantay dagat” and volunteer scuba divers. Locally called “taklobo,” giant clams are the world’s largest bivalve mollusks. They inhabit clear, unpolluted, and shallow coral reef waters.
