    Excerpt
The government is aiming to prevent price surges in the domestic market by allowing the importation of up to 25,000 metric tons (MT) of various fish and seafood, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA). Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said he has approved the guidelines for the importation of various fish and seafood starting March. “This will also add variety in the market, especially for food service industry, since fish and marine species covered by this importation are mostly fish and marine products not caught locally,” Laurel said in a statement.
