UPD experts: Algal blooms can now be predicted to prevent Laguna Lake fishes from dying
Excerpt
Since 1973, the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) has routinely monitored the lake’s water quality through remote sensing and monthly assessments. The standard method used for monitoring the algal population in water is to measure chlorophyll-a, the green pigment produced by algae. But having to wait for the instruments to indicate high algal content poses risk and the results may come out too late that the bloom may have already occurred.
