Fisherfolks from oil-spill-stricken Oriental Mindoro benefited from the Department of Agriculture — Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources “fish-smoking” process and techniques. Personnel from the DA-BFAR, through its office in MIMAROPA reported that they have provided the fisherfolks “hands-on” technical training on fish-smoking technology or tinapa making and gave them equipment and raw materials, to help them earn amid fishing bans imposed by the provincial government. Aside from the training, the fisherfolks were also lectured on sustainable market strategies and business practices. Upon completion of the training, BFAR provided 10 smokehouses, 10 chest type freezers, 10 sets of kitchen wares and 10 sets of food processing equipment to the province.
