The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is implementing beginning this month until September a ban on unregulated use of fish aggregating devices (FAD) within Philippine waters. The annual three-month ban is imposed on the use of fish aggregating devices such as purse seine and ring nets in compliance with government's commitment to the conservation measures set by the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC). For the duration of the ban, all fishing vessels are banned from using purse seines and ring nets in the country's exclusive economic zones (EEZs) and in the high seas unless authorized by the bureau.en
