Capiz governor Victor Tanco Sr. banned shellfish in the province following the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources' (BFAR) Aug. 29 advisory that Sapian Bay has red tide toxins. In an interview, Tanco said he already advised the mayors of Sapian, Ivisan, Panay, Pontevedra, and Pilar towns and this city to advise their fisherfolk to refrain from eating, gathering, transporting or marketing shellfish. According to the BFAR advisory, Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) toxin level in shellfish collected from Sapian Bay is currently at 74 micrograms per 100 grams of shellfish meat.en
