Officials of Guimaras mull designating a turtle sanctuary in the island province. Rep. JC Rahman Nava committed to secure funds for the preservation and conservation of sea turtles, also called pawikan. According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the survival rate for newly-hatched turtles in the wild is only one percent. Therefore, said Nava, a man should take the initiative and the lead efforts to preserve sea turtles.
