    Excerpt
United States President Donal Trump, in his first State of the Union Address before a joint session of Congress, painted a picture of social, economic and political progress in his first year in power. Trump appealed for unity in a year marked by the divisiveness of his own making by stoking partisan lines between the ruling Republicans and the opposition Democrats. Trump's campaign theme of "America first" also created a ripple of resentment in some parts of the globe.
