    Excerpt
The Department of Agriculture (DA) and local players are eyeing to develop a more competitive eel industry in the country. The development of the eel industry comes as the Japan and South Korea markets are substituting tropical eel for the dwindling supply of the Anguila Japonica eel species, said Apolinario Yambot, dean of the Central Luzon State University-College of Fisheries. DA Secretary Proceso Alcala has met with domestic players to discuss initial plans on how to develop the glass eel industry, as well as the industry roadmap which aims to guide farmers to gear up production.
