Fisherfolk and environmental groups have recently lauded President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for directing the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to work closely with the Office of the Executive Secretary in the crafting of an administrative order that will require commercial fishing vessels to install vessel monitoring systems. The groups said that the pronouncement of the President is a victory of marginal fisherfolk in their effort to protect municipal fishing groups against the intrusion of commercial fishing vessels.
