The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region has started the demolition of illegal fish cages in Taal Lake. The demolition, which started on May 31 and will last until June 6, is being undertaken by the Protected Area Management Office-Taal Volcano Protected Landscape (Pamo-TVPL) of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in the region, the Police Maritime Group, the Philippine Coast Guard and other concerned law enforcement agencies. The authorities aim to demolish 63 fish corrals, locally known as baklad, that were unlawfully constructed in the part of the lake in the villages of Gulod and Buso-buso in Laurel town of Batangas.
