    Excerpt
The United States will oppose moves to exclude it from the disputed South China Sea and will support a code of conduct for claimants that promotes stability and a rules-based order in the region, a State Department official said. Amy Archibald, director of the State Department Office of Maritime Southeast Asia, said a commitment to a free, open, secure and prosperous Pacific region is important to the US and a code of conduct for South China Sea claimants should help achieve such goal.
