A midterm election nears, stakeholders are pushing anew for the creation of a separate agency that will focus on the fisheries sector amid the continuing decline in local catch. During The Philippine fisheries Summit, former agriculture secretary William Dar said legislative measures should be considered to create a centralized agency that will give more attention to and support for the sustainable development of the local fisheries and aquatic resources.
