Civil Society group Citizen Watch has called on authorities to act decisively on the reported coil spill off the coast of Antique after a coil barge from Semirara to Cebu ran aground at the height of typhoon Seniang some 50 meters off Balud in the town of Tobias Forner. Responsible parties must be held accountable for the contamination to the environment, including Semirara Mining Corp., the country's largest coal producer, and the Manila-based shipping company Asian shipping Corp., Citizen Watch said in a statement. "In the minimum, a congressional investigation must be conducted, considering the serious environmental and economic risks of the coal spill.
