DENR-EMB to conduct water samplings on coal spill site

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB-6) will conduct water sampling on the area in Antique province where a barge filled with coal ran aground last month. DENR-EMB Regional Director Jonathan Bulos said they already sent personnel to test the seawater in the area for possible coal contamination. Bulos said the incident happened on December 30 after barge “Bryan”, which was transporting some 6,705 metric tons of coal from Semirara Island in Antique to Toledo City in Cebu, ran aground at Brgy. Balud, Tobias Fornier town due to strong waves caused by tropical storm Seniang.
