Recently, three Chinese coast guard vessels blocked two Philippine Navy (PN) ships en route to resupply soldiers stationed on BRP Sierra Madre, a state vessel beached on Ayungin Shoal. In the 2016 South China Sea arbitration, the Philippines complained about similar activities by China in the shoal.
