President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law establishing, under the supervision of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of the Department of Agriculture (BFAR-DA), a multispecies marine hatchery in the province of Iloilo. Republic Act (RA) 11735 establishes a satellite multispecies marine hatchery in the municipality of Batad, Iloilo. Under the law, the BFAR-DA, must, within three years after the establishment of the satellite multi-species marine hatchery, transfer the management of the same to the Northern Iloilo State University (formerly Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College or NIPSC) through a memorandum of agreement (MOA).
