After gaining fame as a surfing haven, the island of Siargao in Surigao del Norte province is also now into dragon boat racing in a bid to hasten the revival of its tourism industry following the destruction wrought on the island by Typhoon “Odette” (international name: Rai) in December last year. The first Dapa Siargao National Dragon Boat Regatta opened here on Friday, with the competitions held on Saturday and Sunday.
