The fisheries bureau is seeking to protect the galunggong fishery by declaring a no-harvest season during spawning in northern Palawan, in a bid to raise the long-term numbers of the species, an important food for low-income families. The bureau's parent agency, the Department of Agriculture, has reached an agreement with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to restrict fishing of galunggong (Decapterus macrosama,or round scad) between November and February.
