On top of a hill at Tapao Point in Binangonan, Rizal, overlooking the Laguna Lake, researchers are quietly revolutionizing fish production to fill Asia's lack of cheap protein sources to feed its rapidly growing population. The 45-hectare Binangonan research station of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), after seven years of involvement in freshwater fish production, has "struck gold" when it found that carp grown in the Laguna Lake conditions could spawn year-round, despite an observed seasonality in breeding in other parts of the world.
