    Excerpt
Researchers at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (Seafdec) in Iloilo have successfully bred another shrimp species which may yet replace the tiger prawn (sugpo) that local producers are exporting. Popularly called kuruma ebi (scientific name: Penaeus japonicus), the species is said to be the most favored shrimp species in Japan, selling at five to 10 times or up to P1,200 per kilo the price of tiger prawn (scientific name: P. monodon).
