The Aquaculture Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (Seafdec/AQD) swept the 1996 Dr. Elvira O. Tan Memorial Award for both aquaculture and marine fisheries category. AQD researchers Teresa R. de Castro and Nicholas G. Guanzon, Jr. won the aquaculture category with their paper "Growth of Gracilaria Sp. (Gracilariales, rhodophyta) in Brackishwater Ponds at Different Stocking Densities."
