Scientists of a Philippine-based Southeast Asian center are close to finding an alternative to banned pesticides used by fishfarmers in controlling mud snails in bangus ponds. Field trial of the alternative, a metaldehyde formulation (10 percent active ingredient), is now on its final stages, reported Dr. Relicardo Coloso, biochemist of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC AQDD) based in Tigbauan, Iloilo.
