Carpio: PH imports galunggong from China
Excerpt
Retired Supreme Court justice Antonio Carpio, in a statement aired over DZMM Teleradyo on Monday, said the Philippines is now importing galunggong from China, which sources it from the West Philippine Sea. Galunggong, according to the price monitoring of the Department of Agriculture (DA), now retails at P240 per kilo as of May 10, an increase from P200 a week ago. “Tayo, wala na tayong makukuhang galunggong. Kumukuha na tayo sa Tsina. Yung isda na galing sa West Philippine Sea, kinukuha sa Chinese fisherfolk. Binebenta sa atin ang sarili nating isda (We can no longer get galunggong. We are importing it from China. That fish comes from the West Philippine Sea, being caught by Chinese fisherfolk and sold to us. They sell us our own fish),” said Carpio.
