Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) ships have executed close-distance maneuvering that risked collision with Philippine vessels in Panatag Shoal four times over the last 10 months, the latest happening on March 2. In a statement on Sunday, March 27, the Philippine Coast Guard reported that the latest incident involved the CCG vessel with bow number 3305, which maneuvered within 21 yards of the PCG’s BRP Malabrigo. The PCG said this action by the CCG vessel of constraining the maneuvering space of BRP Malabrigo, which was then patrolling Panatag Shoal, is a clear violation of the 1972 International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
