The Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) has called on the government to control the prices of galunggong or round scad, which now costs P250 per kilo. The group cited the need for government intervention through price control to stabilize the prices of the “poor man’s fish’.” “With P250/kilogram retail price, galunggong is no longer a ‘poor man’s fish.’ This unreasonable pricing is mainly caused by government’s failure to regulate private fish traders who secure their profits by jacking up the wholesale prices and eventually pushes up retail prices at unaffordable levels,” said Fernando Hicap, Pamalakaya National Chairperson said in a statement.en
